NOUN hunts for a new Vice Chancellor, sets high standard

The Registrar of NOUN who is also the Secretary of the institution’s Governing Council, Felix Eboka made this known to the public during the week and emphatically called for only credible applicants who have track record of leadership qualities particularly on education and other important areas.

He said the search becomes necessary following the tenure of the present Vice Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ubah Abdala which will elapse on Thursday 11th February, 2021 which is around the corner, and therefore will have the office vacant on the date.

Apart from academic qualifications, the governing council expects the successor to have a clean slate vis-à-vis credibility, clout and vast experience in ODL system, and above all, capacity to market graduates of the institution to the general public both within and outside the country.

The statement reads in part;

“In addition, the candidates must demonstrate clear understanding of the need to interface with the end-users/employers of NOUN’s products (especially industry and other educational institutions) in other to guide the university’s social responsiveness, social accountability and thus, promote the acceptance of NOUN graduates within the nation and beyond.

“Have an international reputation as a scholar in universities both in Nigeria and outside in such areas as sabbaticals, international supervision and examination of PhD, conference presentations etc.

“Be morally sound and of impeachable probity and integrity, and without any pecuniary embarrassment.

“Be a person who is physically and mentally fit in state of good health with verifiable certificates to that effect.

“Be a person who commands respect nationally and internationally especially in academic circles demonstrated through reputable international publications. Online and junk publications will not be considered”.

The prerequisites added that a hunted candidate must possess ability to translate strategy into action and effectively plan, mobilize and manage resources to deliver expected results.
