Trump shocks the world, calls for postponement of US election

PRESIDENT of the United States of America, Donald Trump on Thursday called for postponement of election which is few months away.

Trump made the call through his social media handle and said that on account of the pandemic, that the forthcoming election should be postponed to ensure accuracy during the election.

He called for postponement pending when coronavirus pandemic is defeated to allow the electorates to participate in the election which may not be realistic. By the US Constitution, the election is due every four years as practiced in Nigeria, and failure to conduct election for transition of a new administration will automatically alter the provisions of the Constitution ,and above all, set a bad precedent which greedy politicians may adopt as a ploy to stay longer in office beyond the time with flimsy excuses.

“With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???”, Trump Tweeted.

What amazed many people after the controversial post is that Trump insists and pushes campaigns in favour of Hydroxychloroquine as a cure for coronavirus without endorsement by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Centre for Disease Control (CDC), and had earlier ordered ease of lockdown in public places in the US, and with intense threat to override any US governor that ignores his directives.

This made most people to conclude that Trump’s latest action must have resulted from panic and fear of losing the poll as his utterances in the recent time have continued to attack his integrity as an ideal President for the world’s number one country.

Observers who describe President Trump’s remarks as “America- wonder” believe that such a call is suspicious and unacceptable, as it will pose as a great threat to democracy particularly in the developing nations where sit-tight syndrome among politicians is in vogue.
