Covid-19: Anambra relaxes lockdown in phases, reiterates on WHO precautionary measures

THE government of Anambra state has relaxed the lockdown imposed on the state as a precautionary measure toward the fight of the dreaded Coronavirus in the global community.

The state governor, Willie Obiano in a broadcast on Saturday at Awka directed churches in the state to resume activities however with stipulated precautionary measures by the World Health Organization (WHO) strictly adhered to during the services while other activities will follow suit in phases after consultations.

“With regards to religious groups, leaders of the church should ensure that worshippers comply with the standards protocols of COVID-19 which includes wearing of face masks to church, use of hand sanitizers, social distancing and regular washing of hands.

“Church leaders should decide how best to conduct mass and service in strict adherence to the principles of social distancing to ensure that worshippers are not endangered. Please note that there should be no crusades and vigils for the time being.

“All food and drug markets in the state are to open with immediate effect.

“I will meet with market leaders on Monday, 27th April, for further discussion. When to re-open the schools as well as when civil servants will be allowed to go back to offices will be announced soon”, Obiano stated.

According to National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), as at 11:55 pm on Saturday 25th April, there are 1182 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Nigeria with 35 deaths while 222 infected persons recovered and were discharged.

Out of the number, Anambra state has only one case in the NCDC record. The agency also reported that 87 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported; 33 in Lagos 18 in Borno 12 in Osun 9 in Katsina 4 in Kano 4 in Ekiti 3 in Edo 3 in Bauchi 1 in Imo.
