Buhari mourns Sarkin Malaman Sokoto, Ayagi, others, calls for Covid-19 precautionary measures

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has described the death of Sarkin Malaman Sokoto, Alhaji Buhari Siriddawa, as a great loss, not only to the people of Sokoto State, but also the entire country because of his indefatigable commitment to peace during his eventful life on earth.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity), Garba Shehu while disclosing this on Saturday stated President Buhari received the news the passage of the Sarkin with a great shock adding that eulogized the late leader.

“I received the news of Siriddawa’s demise with great shock, and I will say without any fear of contradiction that he was one of the greatest religious leaders of our recent history or time.

“The late Sarkin Malaman Sokoto had committed himself to the promotion of peace, unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence in the country and had built an enviable legacy worthy of emulation.

“May the Almighty Allah forgive his soul and reward his noble deeds with paradise, and grant his family the fortitude to bear this great loss.

President Buhari said further, while extending his condolences to the Sokoto Emirate Council in particular, and the government and people of Sokoto State in general.

Similarly, President Buhari paid tribute to a renowned scholar and professor of economics, Professor Ibrahim Alkali Ayagi, describing him as an accomplished economist, banker and administrator who made outstanding contributions to the development of education in northern Nigeria, promotion of entrepreneurship and small businesses.

President Buhari extends heartfelt condolences to Prof Ayagi’s family, the government and people of Kano and his many friends, students and admirers.

In the wake of the devastating impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the President also appeals to the multitude of mourners and sympathizers, particularly in home state of the deceased, to maintain social distancing, stay-at-home and observe all precautionary measures to curtail the transmission of the virus.

Furthermore, Katsina Elders Forum has commiserated with President Muhammadu Buhari on the death of his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari.

In a letter of condolence signed by Alhaji Ahmadu Kurfi, Chairman and Alhaji Aliyu Sani Mohammed, Secretary General, the Forum described Kyari’s death as a big blow to the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

”No doubt, the death is a great loss not only to the family of Malam Abba Kyari but to the whole nation in view of the vacuum the death of Malam Kyari has created in the presidency especially his altruism in leadership and prudent management of resources.

”We pray Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and admit him in Aljanna Firdaus. May Allah give the family the fortitude to bear this great loss”, the Forum stated’

The President also received commiserations from the Managing Director, Bank of Industry, Mr Olukayode Pitan and former President of ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development, Bashir Mamman Ifo.
