Covid-19: Buhari extols Catholic Bishops for donating 435 hospitals

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), has shown exemplary leadership by donating a total of 435 Hospitals and Clinics to the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on Covid-19 to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

The remarks was made by the Chairman of PTF/Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha while receiving members of the Conference in his office on Wednesday during the donation, and eulogized them for remarkably showing such magnitude of solidarity and love to the government and people of Nigeria in the trying times.

While lauding the Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria on the remarkable deed, the SGF called on other faith-based groups to support the government in the fight to curb the spread of the pandemic, and described the gesture as not only well-timed but essential in complementing government’s efforts particularly medical practitioners in their efforts to bring the pandemic under control in the country.

Mr. Boss added that coronavirus contagion does not respect religion, tribe, race or status and therefore called for all hands to join in the efforts so as to curtail the spread of the pandemic in the country.

“We will continue to work with all faith-based organizations, civil society groups and all men of goodwill interested in helping out at this time of need’’, Boss said.

Speaking earlier on behalf of the President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, Most Rev. Augustine Obiora Akubeze, the Archbishop of Abuja Archdiocese, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama, informed the SGF that the conference is concerned like any other well-meaning Nigerians with prayers and that the gesture was to identify the PTF in expression of their faith adding that faith without works is dead.

The Conference assured the government of its continued supports and cooperation toward curbing the pandemics particularly by sensitizing members of the faith to adhere strictly to the guidelines and preventive measures in place by the National Centre for Disease Control, Ministry of Health and the Presidential Task Force on covid-19. The Conference finally prayed that the challenge will be conquered by the grace of God.
