Igbo group advocates supports for less-privileged back home

A socio-cultural association, Igboekulie Association has called on the wealthy class and urban settlers to remember the home people in this critical period of lock-down and restriction of movements across the nation over the outburst of the dreadful coronavirus contagion.

The group in a statement on Wednesday signed by its President, Prince Ben Onuora and Secretary, Barr. Ben Obidiegwu emphasized that this period in which means of livelihoods of people are shut down requires show of love and brotherliness particularly to the less-privileged in the villages who will be worst hit by the ugly situation.

The group noted that federal and state governments resorted to the radical measures and policy to safeguard lives on account of the hazards associated with Convid-19, and therefore appealed to those in better financial conditions to remember those in helpless situations.

However, Igboekulie Association enjoined everyone to adhere strictly to the guidelines and preventive measures put in place by statutory agencies particularly the recommended social distancing in order to curtail and ultimately eradicate the coronavirus in the society.

“This Covid-19 has compelled the federal and state governments to restrict movements nationwide. As a result, hunger is ravaging Nigerians especially our people in the villages who are mostly farmers and petty traders who rely on daily income to feed their children. We know things are tough for many people now. However, the situation is worse for them.

“We therefore urge you to support our people back home with any form of financial assistance. We know some of you may have done so already for people in Lagos, Abuja and Kano etc. How about our own people back home? Imagine what N10,000; N20,000; N30,000 etc. distributed through a reliable source can do for your relations and village people who are hungry now.  Please remember them during this difficult period”, the group stated.
