Teachers aren’t born but made

By Adunke Olatunji

Teachers’ Day is a wonderful occasion to reciprocate the love and affection shown to us by our teachers

Although teachers are not born, but made, they are considered special people created by God, for the betterment of humanity. They are regarded as the reservoir of knowledge, love and compassion.

The best teachers known to the world are not just popular for being the reservoir of knowledge, but also for their commitment, while in service. Teacher’s Day is the occasion especially dedicated to all those people, who have devoted their time towards the betterment of their students, both academically and ethically.

At kindergarten, teacher becomes a substitute for mother. The teacher takes care of the students and treats them as her own children. When they grow older, teacher assumes the role of an instructor, who guides his/her students to become a good person and instills moral thoughts in them. When the students are capable to stand on their own feet, the mentor assists them to reach all the milestones and accomplish all the goals set for life.

During the formative years of life, teacher showers immense love and affection upon his/her students, in return of which he/she expects nothing but appreciation.

We held their hands the first day of school.
Our hearts were filled with pride.
There was an aura of fear and apprehension
As we stood close to their side.
We deposited our children at your door,
Our most precious and prized possessions.
We trusted that you would give them more
Then Reading and Writing lessons.
Our unspoken words were, give them self worth.
They are little children, respect their rights.
Teach them with love and remember compassion.
Use a firm hand to break up their fights.
As the years went by, you did us proud
With your guiding hand and understanding smile.
You gave much more then we expected.
That was your way, your undeniable style.

If I could teach you, teacher,
I’d teach you how much more
you have accomplished
than you think you have.

I’d show you the seeds
you planted years ago
that are now coming into bloom.

I’d reveal to you the young minds
that have expanded under your care,
the hearts that are serving others
because they had you as a role model.

If I could teach you, teacher,
I’d show you the positive effect
you have had on me and my life.

Your homework is
to know your value to the world,
to acknowledge it, to believe it.
Thank you, teacher.

Thank you, Teacher,
For reaching deep in me
to find all I can be
before I can see it myself.

You never gave up on me.
I have a future
because of you.

The kind of challenges you’d make me face.
You gave me motivation to pursue
The best, and to reject the commonplace.

Rarely does someone get to influence a person’s life in a positive way for a lifetime,
as a teacher can, fostering optimism and confidence, providing knowledge that leads to success, and being a good role model,
as you have, and you are,and you will…
forever.

Your thinking really opened up my mind.
With wisdom, style and grace, you made me see,
That what I’d choose to seek, I’d surely find;
You shook me out of my complacency.

I thank you now for everything you’ve done;
What you have taught me I will not outgrow.
Your kind attention touched my mind and heart;
In many ways that you will never know.

What higher tribute can we pay a teacher?
To what greater heights can he ascend?
Than to have his students praise his work,
And to say “He/ She is my friend.”
You all are the best teacher we can ever pray for.

Dedicated to all my teachers.
