S’African Multichoice codes NTA as DStv 419

NTA News 24 (DStv 419) is an English language general news channel, providing news on current affairs, business, social, economy, sports, entertainment, as well as in-depth discussions and analysis of topical issues from varying perspectives, insightful discussions with experts on current regional and international.

South African owned company, MultiChoice that operates the DStv Satellite Television service, a major satellite TV service in Sub-Saharan Africa and GOtv, a minor satellite TV service operating in over 13 Sub-Saharan Africa incidentally placed Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) to Channel 419.

In Nigeria, 419 which originated from the Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has become a popular code to describe fraudulent activities.

Section 419 provides “Any person who by any false pretence, and with intent to defraud, obtains from any other person anything capable of being stolen, or induces any other person to deliver to any person anything capable of being stolen, is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment.

NTA is a government owned television stations and scores of citizens rate NTA Channels low, inefficient and unreliable coupled with the magnitude of corruption in the government circles by public officeholders and politicians. In fact, it could be justifiably said by ugly developments in government circles over the years that there have been competition on which political party will loot the treasury than the other.

Could this therefore be a coincidence or deliberate act by South African Satellite company to code Nigeria’s national television Channel as 419 widely known as code for frauds?
