FORMER Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, Kingsley Moghalu on Saturday congratulated the newly elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata on his victory at the recent poll.

Moghalu, a Professor of Political Economics on his social media handle also commended the young lawyers for backing a candidate based on credibility and capacity to deliver rather than status, thereby altered the status quo by electing a lawyer not yet elevated to the rank of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

“I congratulate Olumide Akpata on his election as President of the Nigerian Bar Association. Proud to have endorsed his candidacy. Great job by the young lawyers and others who backed him. NBA needs to truly stand up for justice and the rule of law in our troubled country”, Moghalu stated.

By the development, Akpata has become an underdog who unyieldingly broke a 30-year jinx to emerge NBA president.

Born on October 7, 1972, Akpata had his early education in Warri, Delta state.  He attended Kings College, Lagos, for his secondary education and later got admitted into the University of Benin. He was called to the bar on December 15, 1993.

He is a founding member of the NBA Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL), which comprises 22 committees, which focus on various areas of commercial law dating back to as far as 2006.
