Obaseki’s travails worsen, dragged to court over forgery, perjury

EDO State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has been dragged before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja over allegations of forged certificate and perjury.

In the originating summons with Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/553/2020, the plaintiffs are Edobor Williams, Ugbesia Abudu Godwin and Amedu Dauda Anakhu while the defendants are the All Progressives Congress (APC), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Inspector- General of Police (IGP) and Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The Plaintiffs alleged that Governor Obaseki on 12th July, 2016 submitted to the second Defendant, INEC a first degree certificate of Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in Classical Studies said to have been obtained from the University of Ibadan which was forged.

They also contend that by the sworn-affidavit by the 4th defendant knowingly the statements to be false, that the deponent is guilty of perjury and therefore not qualified to contest election for the office of the governor of Edo state scheduled to hold on 19th September, 2020.

At the time of filing the report, no date has been assigned for hearing.
