Covid-19: Atiku refutes N10,000 weekly allowance, urges citizens to be wary of scams

THE former Vice President and Presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in last general election, Atiku Abubakar has debunked the claims that his foundation has concluded plans to pay all Nigerians a sum of N10,000 weekly as relief allowance to cushion the effects of the stay at home directives of the federal government.

In a statement by Paul Ibe, spokesperson to the former Vice President, the information is false, fabricated and with no iota of truth in it, and didn’t emanate from the former Vice President’s foundation but a handiwork of scammers who must have perfected strategies to hack into bank accounts of people for some fraudulent activities. wary

“I wish to bring to the attention of Nigerians that the notice circulating on social media directing unsuspecting people to a link with a name, ‘Atiku Foundation’ is fake, and not connected to the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar. For avoidance of doubt, it is a scam”, the spokesperson said.

The fraudulent posts by disgruntled elements in various social media platforms read;

“This is not a joke. Abubakar Atiku is set to put a smile on every Nigeria citizens face. All Nigerian citizens are entitled to N10,000 weekly allowance just to stay safe”, the scammers stated.

The general public is therefore enjoined to ignore such posts and never to release their bank details particularly the Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) which is their target.

It is also important to note that not even a bank official will require bank customers BVN and other personal details through SMS or phone calls let alone social media links. Citizens are therefore to shun any request to give out bank details to any unknown person outside the banking hall by bank officials. A stitch in time saves nine. Stay safe, stay secured.
