From research, studies have shown that droplets that spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes land on nearby surfaces.
This therefore translates to mean that Coronavirus is not airborne disease that could be prevented by wearing of face-masks. Rather, to stay safe, avoid contacts with the mouth, eyes and nose which is represented by the acronym ‘MEN’.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has therefore recommended the wearing of face-masks for only those that are ill or health officials to prevent being infected with the dreadful contagion.
In the light of this, ensure you always maintain a social distance of 2 meters and regularly wash your hands thoroughly with soaps and sanitizer.
From NCDC records, number of recovered patients that have been discharged has risen to nine (9) with only two (2) deaths recorded out of the 139 confirmed cases across the country.
Lagos state leads by 82 and followed by Federal Capital Territory with 28 confirmed cases. Oyo state has 8 numbers while Osun -5, Ogun -4, Kaduna-3. Enugu, Edo and Bauchi states have 2 each while Ekiti, Rivers and Benue states have one confirmed case each.
Thus, the key precautionary measure remains to avoid touching your mouth, eyes and nose in acronym as ‘MEN’ if your hands are nit clean.
Always cover your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue of flexed elbow when you cough or sneeze.
