A Professor of Law and Dean, Faculty of Law, Kwara State University (KWASU),Prof Abiodun Amuda-Kannike (SAN) has appealed to the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resolve the protracted ASUU strike.
The Dean made the remarks in a statement to the media on Saturday stressing that there is the need for the urgent reopening of the Universities on account of sundry ugly implications of keeping students out of schools for a long period.
He said the seven month old strike had generated a lot of issues, including pushing many students into committing different crimes including robbery, drug abuse and girls roaming the streets.
The Professor of Law reminded the two parties; Federal Government and ASUU that it is the grass that suffers when two elephants fight.
However, he admitted that the demands of the lecturers are germane as meeting them will motivate them for service delivery adding that the strike mostly affected children of the masses.
“The demands of the striking lecturers are germane and therefore should be looked into without further delay for the purpose of service delivery.
“We cannot afford to allow these students to continue roaming the streets on account of security implications to the nation.
“Government and ASUU should come to terms so far to prevent dangers associated with keeping young people idle for long”, Prof Amuda-Kannike stated. END!
