PROFESSOR of Law, Abiodun Amuda-Kannike (SAN) has expressed sadness over the Lekki toll-gate saga which reportedly sent many to early graves and also metamorphosed to wanton destruction of properties of governments and citizens.
Amuda-Kannike, who is also Dean, Faculty of Law, Kwara State University, Malete in a statement commiserated with the families that lost their beloved ones in the crisis, and stressed that the protests that began in a well-civilized and peaceful manner to the extreme is unfortunate.
He emphasized that the protests are genuine, but wanton destruction of properties of government, corporate organisations and citizens are uncalled for, and therefore urged government to set up machinery towards compensating those that loss their lives and valuables.
In addition, the legal luminary called upon the government to investigate the mayhems so as to bring the culprits to book to serve as deterrence to others.
He condemned in entirety the desecration of the palace of Oba of Lagos saying that the action is condemnable and uncalled for. However, he pleaded with the protesting youths to please give peace a chance in overall interest of the nation noting that government has shown determination to address their grievance by scrapping the notorious unit of the Police and promised a holistic reform.
“My view is that the protests are genuine, understandable and therefore, their demands should be adequately addressed by the government.
“The protesters and the government should also come to a roundtable and agree to peaceful resolution of the crisis while adequate compensation should be given to the families of those who lost their lives and properties.

He also prayed for the souls of those that lost their lives during the protests adding that their deaths are noble sacrifices to mankind and will not be in vain as they died as heroes for the nation.
