Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN

VICE President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo , SAN on Thursday counseled religious leaders in the country who are beefing over the reviewed Companies and Allied Matters Act -2020 signed into law recently by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Osinbajo on Thursday during a speech at the annual general conference of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) said the religious leaders can make recommendations to the National Assembly for the law to be amended if displeased with any clause.

He emphasized that the new law which is an Act of the Parliament and given assent to by the President can only be reviewed by the National Assembly in accordance to democratic process.

“On the reviewed CAMA – The legislation is huge and has over 800 sections and covers a wide range of issues on companies. There is a small portion that is for incorporated trustees. That section regulates charities. Churches and Mosques are regarded as charities.

“We are in a democracy and there is a process by which things can be done and that process is the one where you bring forward amendments to the National Assembly and they will do whatever is considered useful in the circumstance”, he said.
