Edo group goes tough, sensitizes community as Covid-19 confirmed cases rise

THE National Volunteer Group (NVG) on Covid-19, Edo State chapter has unveiled its plan to embark on sensitization activity in Oredo Local Government Area in the state against further spread of the deadly coronavirus contagion. The programme is tagged; “Let’s end Covid-19 with SWAG”.

This was contained in a statement by Comrade Julia Bienose, Coordinator, National Volunteer Group, Oredo LGA on Tuesday in Benin-City stating that the sensitization programme tagged ‘SWAG’ will take place at Ogbe Primary School premises on Thursday 16 April, 2020 at 9.00am.

Mrs. Bienose emphasized that the SWAG programme has become necessary on account of the havocs the pandemics has done across the world including Nigeria noting that at the moment, Edo state’s Covid-19 confirmed cases has rapidly risen to 15 and pegs as the number 4 position in the nation.

Using the acronym ‘SWAG’ for the sensitization programme, the group explained that the first letter ‘S’ stands for ‘stay at home’; ‘W’ stands for ‘wash your hands regularly; ‘A’ stands for ‘always sneeze in your elbow; and the last letter ‘G’ stands for ‘give space’ adding that with these preventive measures strictly adhered to, the state will come out of the ugly situation.

It will be recalled that presently, Nigeria has a total of 373 confirmed cases with 11 deaths while 99 Covid-19 patients have been successfully cured and discharged from the Isolation centres. Out of the number, Lagos has 214 confirmed cases and followed by FCT with 58 while Osun state has 20 confirmed cases.

The coordinator enjoined everyone in the metropolis to accord the sensitization a sense of duty and importance noting that knowledge is power while ignorance is not an excuse to the contagion.

“It will be of immense benefit to all and sundry if you would grace the sensitization programme which is scheduled to take place on the 16th April, 2020 at Ogbe Primary School premises at 9.00am with your presence”, the Coordinator stated.
